Member Notes:
This delightful treat has a dark brown color and a light brown head. It smells much like an American Barleywine, sticky sweet and divinely hoppy. The aroma is sweet and crazy alcoholic for only 9% ABV. It seems to be fermented with a very clean and efficient American yeast, but is soft in the mouth and slightly muted and tame compared to the aroma. It finishes clean, almost woody, and malty, with a touch of alcohol. Thin on the palate and in the finish, this "blend" came out very well. Love. - Noss
Club & Brewer Notes:
A Dane, a Norwegian, and an American walk into a brewery. The result is no joke but there is a punchline involved.
In November of 2011 three brewers from 8 Wired Brewing, Renaissance brewing and Norway's Nøgne Ø brewing got together at Renaissance in Blenheim to produce a Collaboration extravaganza!
The result is a brewed a strong, dark, hoppy ale called Ø for Awesome
The beer is based on three beers, one from each brewery: Renaissance Stonecutter Scotch Ale, 8 Wired Hopwired IPA and Nøgne Ø #100.
The name of the beer is based on a phrase by David Tua, professional heavyweight champion, when he appeared on New Zealands Wheel of Fortune in 1992 and requested an Ø for Awesome!
