Club & Brewer Notes:
This is a unique Fremont project where they use multiple vintages of their Rusty Nail stout blended with a porter. The The Rusty Nail begins life as The First Nail, an oatmeal stout of epic proportions with brewer’s licorice, smoked barley, and pale malt and is then aged on cinnamon bark. She becomes The Rusty Nail after spending 15 months in 12-year old bourbon barrels. Melange gives an opaque pour, black and inky with a large cap of dark mocha-colored head that quickly fizzles away. Pretty strong spice characteristics immediately on the nose, with roast and spirit barrel apparent as well. Notes of cinnamon, chocolate, coffee, brewer licorice, marshmallow and minor impressions of vanilla.
