Notes: Mind Circus IPA has a mild bitterness and a thick, luscious mouthfeel. This style of IPA is what is being called in the beer world a “Hazy IPA” Dominantly herbaceous and grassy, with moderate tropical notes as well as some bright citrus. This unique hazy IPA gains its flavor of grapes and grass from the Nelson hops, and its tropical notes of pineapple and mango from the Strata hops. It is unfiltered leaving a “haze” and some yeast for more texture. Oats were also used to add to the softer mouthfeel and hazy appearance.

This year’s Vintage Ale is the 21st edition of our limited edition brew and, like any great 21st, we’ve celebrated in style. The 2017 recipe has been created by our new Head Brewer, Georgina Young, and, in the spirit of all things new, uses a malt and hop combination never seen before in a Fuller’s beer. The Denali hop has a big, inviting aroma that imparts pineapple, citrus and pine notes – perfect for bringing a tropical touch to the Vintage Ale series. It’s been used here both late in the boil and for dry hopping, dovetailing with classic British hop varieties Target and Goldings. We’ve also used a new malting barley this year – a British variety called Laureate. New varieties don’t come along very often, so we thought it fitting to use one this year alongside our new American hop. As with every Vintage Ale, it’s a special beer inside and out, perfect as a gift or to add to your collection.

This beer spent over a year in whiskey barrels from Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig and Four Roses distilleries. It’s worth noting the barrels used are not just three separate bourbons, but from three different distilleries. The Woodford Reserve barrels impart a smooth, rounded wood character. The Elijah Craig barrels bring more of a spicy, rustic note, while the Four Roses barrels contribute pure oak notes.

Over 20 years ago, Brewmaster Greg Hall met the legendary Beam Family 6th Generation Master Distiller, Booker Noe, at a Beer, Bourbon and Cigar pairing dinner. What began as a conversation about a special 1,000th batch for Goose Island’s Clybourn Brewpub would later become a new benchmark for craft beer. T hanks to Booker’s gift of four barrels, bourbon barrel-aged beer was born, and the rest is dark, delicious history. That original collaboration has now come full circle with the 2017 release of Bourbon County Reserve Brand Stout. Aged in 11-year-old Knob Creek® Bourbon barrels, the Small Batch Bourbon created by Booker himself in 1992, this beer is simultaneously a celebration of Knob Creek’s 25th Anniversary and a toast to the chance encounter that brought Bourbon County Brand Stout to the world. Saule is French for “willow”, a traditional nine-year anniversary gift. Our ninth anniversary ale, Saule, follows in the footsteps of our anniversary releases before it, which are loosely based on an English-style old ale, fermented with our house yeast strain, aged in bourbon barrels and blended using the solera method. This means that a portion of each anniversary ale is saved in oak barrels and blended in with the next year’s production, providing more complexity and depth of character as the years go by.
